Space telescope gets a new mission finding exo-planets

Some innovative thinking has repurposed NASA's Spitzer Space Telescope from its original mission, turning the device into a leading detector of planets orbiting other stars, according to this article. Capturing infrared light undetectable by the human eye, the Spitzer homes in on a star, tracing the subtle dimming as a planet crosses in orbit. And looking at the planet itself, the scope reveals much about its atmosphere from the planet's infrared rays.
