Ultraviolet light shows potential against drug-resistant infections

Narrow spectrum ultraviolet light at 207 nanometers might be capable of destroying bacteria such as methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus without injuring patients' skin, according to a study in the journal PLOS ONE. Columbia University Medical Center researchers used cellular models and found that the light was 1,000 times more harmful to MRSA than to skin cells.
