Veterinarians protecting public health on the front lines

Veterinarians around the world are on the front lines of protecting human and animal health as leaders in areas such as disease surveillance, response and research; food safety and quality protection; scientific training; and species conservation. The AVMA and the Federation of Veterinarians of Europe this week released a statement outlining the crucial veterinary aspect of One Health. "Diseases don't respect national or international boundaries," says AVMA President Dr. Clark K. Fobian. "By working with our colleagues around the globe, we can do more to protect the health, safety and welfare of animals, people and the environment worldwide."
