Power system lightens load on transmission lines

A new power system that uses a small, gas-powered turbine to produce energy during peak demand times shows promise for reducing the need to build new electricity transmission lines. By supplying some power for buildings on-site, the technology, developed by the U.S. Department of Energy's Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, lowers stress on transmission lines.
