Trench collapses remain one of the biggest risks for injury and death on construction sites, according to OSHA statistics, but there are steps contractors can take to minimize risks. A shoring device can help protect workers inside the trench, though it can't prevent a cave-in, and one consultant recommends having someone on site at all times who is familiar with trench safety.
