Democrats cancel provisions to ease Bush's stem-cell restrictions

Amid a veto threat from President Bush, Senate Democrats have decided to abandon provisions from a spending bill that would have opened federal funding to human embryonic stem-cell research. Sen. Tom Harkin, D-Iowa, said the provision was canceled "in the spirit of compromise" with the Bush administration, and "with a lot of regret."
