Southwest Airlines triples Q3 earnings

Analysts say Southwest Airlines reports a rise in third-quarter profits today, as the airline has benefited from rising fare prices and higher passenger volume. Fuel costs and a one-time charge of $25 million due to the early buyout of some older workers will cut into profits. Net income for the three months ended Sept. 30 rose to $162 million, or 22 cents per share.
