Chinese mine disaster highlights Chile's safety advantage

At least 30 miners are dead, and seven more are unlikely to be found alive, after a natural gas explosion at a Chinese coal mine. Some 6 million cubic feet of gas flooded the mine, investigators say, and the mine pit also was filled with 2,500 tons of coal dust. The disaster highlights the shoddy safety measures in place at Chinese mines, experts say, especially when compared with the mine-rescue effort that concluded last week in Chile.
