Construction starts fell 39% in September

Although nonresidential construction starts in the first three quarters of this year totaled $193.4 billion, almost equal to the same period last year, this September's starts were 39% lower than in August, led by declines in the construction of highways and bridges, schools, and water, sewer and civil projects, according to Reed Construction Data.
