Revelations about "robo-signing" and other issues with documentation related to foreclosures are concerning and must be dealt with, but the Obama administration and others involved are wise to resist calls for a moratorium on all foreclosures. Banks will need to have employees resolve the document issues, which will leave fewer people to modify loans for homeowners who are struggling but able to still pay. The situation will hinder the broader housing market, but a foreclosure freeze would be worse, according to this Washington Post editorial.
