EPA to exempt cellulosic fuels, biomass products from boiler rule

Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Lisa Jackson has written to Sen. Olympia Snowe, R-Maine, saying the agency will issue a "clarification" on its proposed rule regarding the use of recycled materials to power boilers and heating units. The EPA amendment will exempt wood debris, cellulosic biofuels and other biomass, Jackson said. The agency wants "to avoid disincentives for burning clean materials, such as biomass, for fuel," Jackson added.
