Survey: IT department is often firms' first line of cyberrisk defense

Many companies consider their information-technology department their first line of defense against cyberliability exposure even though they recognize that the entire organization should be responsible for information security and cyberrisk management, according to a survey by Advisen. The findings might indicate "a significant deficiency in emergency-response planning" because the IT department might not be prepared for interpreting state guidelines and organizing the resources to comply with state requirements after a major data breach, according to the survey.
