Study sees major growth in NFC payments once barriers are overcome

With transportation and ticketing leading the way, mobile payments with NFC devices will grow from $4 billion this year to $191 billion by 2017, according to projections by ABI Research. However, major expansion is unlikely for at least two years, ABI says, as a number of barriers remain to be overcome. "The business models have not yet been clearly identified and proven with no real-world case studies to demonstrate the potential returns," said ABI's practice director, John Devlin.
