Budget deal may have further delayed SGR fix

Congress lacks a natural vehicle on which to hitch a permanent fix to the Medicare sustainable growth rate formula, leaving doctors to face a 24.4% cut in reimbursements next year, Medicare policy expert Kip Piper says. One option may be for a congressional panel to include a permanent solution in a report on broader budget proposals due by mid-December, says Bob Doherty, senior vice president of government affairs and public policy at the American College of Physicians.
