Budget deal sends S&P 500 to record high

The Standard & Poor's 500 hit a record high of 1,733.15 Thursday after Congress ended the budget standoff that closed most of the U.S. government for 16 days. On U.S. exchanges, 6.6 billion shares traded, 12% more than the three-month average. Some major investors speculated that weak economic data will persuade the Federal Reserve to delay its anticipated monetary policy tightening.
