High court considers rules on assets frozen ahead of trial

The Supreme Court is considering the circumstances under which defendants can be barred from using frozen assets to fight the charges against them. The federal government argues that pretrial court hearings should not be required to prevent the use of frozen assets, and some justices seemed to agree with that line of thinking. Others, including Chief Justice John Roberts and Justice Sonia Sotomayor, seemed more skeptical of that position.
