Study shows benefit of shunt in cirrhosis

In a study presented at the American College of Gastroenterology meeting, placement of a transjugular portosystemic shunt led to complete portal vein recanalization among 68% of cirrhotic participants with portal vein thrombosis and significant improvement among another 20%, as measured with Doppler vascular ultrasound. "This study has brought up new ideas in the field of PVT treatment," said researcher Modaresi Esfeh.
