Cities in tropical areas will be the first to feel the impact of climate change, a study suggests, with cities nearer the poles likely to be spared for a few decades longer. Tropical cities also tend to be much poorer, the researchers note. "Our results suggest that countries first impacted by unprecedented climates are the ones with the least capacity to respond," says Ryan Longman, one of the study's co-authors. "Ironically, these are countries that are least responsible for climate change in the first place."
