U.S. regulatory, scientific research activities resume after debt standoff

Federal research activities are resuming after the 16-day partial U.S. government shutdown suspended noncritical regulatory operations. One effect of the shutdown is that it may become more difficult for federal laboratories to recruit top scientists, said Carole LaBonne, molecular biosciences professor at Northwestern University.
