The government has reopened, but it's possible the negative effects will be felt for some time by researchers and government contractors, some experts say. Marion Blakey, president and CEO of the Aerospace Industries Association, warned before the shutdown ended that repercussions could linger, and specifically addressed NASA's work. "The industry workforce supporting NASA is ... being affected," Blakey said. "Program costs are expected to rise as schedules slip. All of NASA's programs may face future funding challenges as a consequence."
