World Food Prize honors 3 agricultural biotech pioneers

Monsanto Chief Technology Officer Robert Fraley, Syngenta founder Mary-Dell Chilton and Marc Van Montagu of the Institute of Plant Biotechnology Outreach at Ghent University are the winners of the 2013 World Food Prize. The three biotechnology scientists were recognized for achievements in founding, developing and using modern agricultural biotechnology. In discussing challenges for the biotech sector, Chilton emphasized the importance of "good communications with the public about the safety" of food.
