Academics muscle out phys ed at many Massachusetts schools

All Massachusetts students are supposed to take physical education annually, but many schools are ignoring that requirement so they can devote more instructional time to core subjects. In response to physical fitness advocates' charges it should be enforcing the law, the Massachusetts education department insists it can't act as the "phys ed police."
