Watchdog group targets buzz marketing for scrutiny

Portland, Ore.-based consumer activist group Commercial Alert is urging the Federal Trade Commission to investigate the the tactics of buzz marketing firm Tremor, which is owned by Procter & Gamble Co. At issue is Tremor's use of its online army of 250,000 teenagers to talk up products and whether those teenagers are paid to influence their peers' buying decisions. A spokesperson for P&G said the marketer had not been contacted by the FTC.
