Riga replaces Soviet melancholy with Baltic optimism

Evidence of Latvia's various rulers, including the Soviets, Germans, Swedes and Poles, can be found throughout its capital city of Riga in museums, cathedrals and the architecture. But the city's vibrant nightlife, interesting restaurants and emerging culture are pushing out the repression of its Soviet era.
