New teacher academy is modeled after doctors' residency program

First-year teachers in Pittsburgh public schools will benefit from a new teacher academy next year that officials say they hope will improve teacher effectiveness. Through the academy, new teachers will be assigned a mentor and will learn classroom management, content and mindset. The first years of the program are funded through the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
