ONC mulls requirements for integrating consumer preferences, EHRs

The Office of the National Coordinator is taking another look at how consumers' wishes regarding their health information should be integrated with their EHRs. "The goal is to simplify the mechanisms by which consumers express their preferences and to make it work in a way that it is efficient so they don't have to express them every time their data is shared," said the Health IT Standards Panel's Education, Communications and Outreach Committee co-chairman. The ONC plans to update draft requirements in December after analyzing public comments, he said.
