Analysts are pessimistic about REIT earnings for the third quarter

Analysts are predicting a weak quarter for REITs for upcoming earnings despite their track record of outperforming the equity markets. High vacancy rates and low rents are expected to have an impact on cash flows across most asset classes, which will have an impact on REITs as they pay out dividends. "The idea we're going to have robust earnings is just not going to happen in most property sectors," says Mike Kirby, director of research for Green Street Advisors.
