Federal group proposes easy-to-understand patient privacy notices

The HHS' Privacy and Security Tiger Team is proposing that providers let patients know how their personal health records will be used and protected through a short summary included in privacy practice notices required by HIPAA. "The summary notice has to describe the uses of information and be written so that 90% of patients can understand it," the panel's co-chairman said.
