Survey: Shoppers plan to spend less on gifts, more on themselves

Consumers plan to spend about $704 on gifts and holiday items this season -- slightly less than last year -- but they also plan to take advantage of seasonal deals to buy non-gift items for themselves, according to a new survey from NRF and BIGresearch. They'll spend an average of $130.43 on purchases for themselves and their families, up from $112.20 last year.
