Teachers learn to engage elementary students in math, science

Academy programs in Texas and New Jersey are training teachers how to engage elementary-school students in math and science. "We train teachers to get students to that 'Aha! moment' with math and science," said Kim Cherry, director of professional development with the Mickelson ExxonMobil Teachers Academy. An Idaho teacher who attended the summer program said he learned to encourage students to ask questions and develop higher-order thinking skills.
