Va. district focuses on achievement in middle school

In Richmond, Va., officials are hoping to improve the district's high-school graduation rate by focusing on student achievement in middle school. The Middle School Renaissance initiative will assist principals with leadership training, mentor students, offer longer school days and themed middle schools, such as those based on the arts or global affairs. The initiative includes a partnership with local businesses and colleges.
