Forbes ranks top sports brands, athletes and teams

Nike, ESPN and Adidas are the top business sports brands, valued at $15.9 billion, $11.5 billion and $6.8 billion, respectively, according to Forbes. To reach that valuation, Forbes calculated how much the branded enterprise would fetch in an arms-length transaction, then subtracted the average enterprise value of a similar business. Forbes also calculated the value of brands for events, such as the Super Bowl ($470 million), brands for top athletes, such as Tiger Woods ($38 million), and team brands, such as the New York Yankees ($363 million).
