FCC's Powell calls for federal oversight of VoIP

The federal government, not the states, should oversee the emerging field of Internet telephony, according to FCC Chairman Michael Powell. Powell called for the FCC to be given broad regulatory power over Voice over Internet Protocol services as a way to ensure the industry would not be crippled by conflicting rules at the state level.
