CMS: Medicaid spending to total $4.9 trillion over the next decade

Medicaid benefits spending over the next 10 years is expected to be $4.9 trillion, a projected yearly average rate of 7.4%, according to a CMS annual report released Friday. The findings show that "the current path of Medicaid spending is unsustainable for both federal and state governments," HHS Secretary Mike Leavitt said.
