Helping women get ahead

Recognizing that its women were stalling in the middle ranks of management, LeasePlan USA hired a consultant to help craft a plan to help more women get ahead.

The company offered women career counseling, revised its pay plan to emphasize performance over longevity and displaced some longtime managers.

The strategy worked: Today, three of the eight top executives are women, up from one in seven two years ago.
