Search-ad deal with Yahoo! tests Google's D.C. clout

Google has taken steps to raise its profile and persuasiveness among regulators, lobbying firms and trade associations, in part because a proposed deal to place its search advertising on Yahoo! Web pages has prompted antitrust objections from rival Microsoft and some in the marketing world. The Justice Department is expected to decide whether to approve the deal in the next few days.
