Budget airlines look to out-Twitter rivals

Discount airlines are embracing social media sites in a bid to outflank traditional carriers: after a JetBlue passenger tweeted that baggage handlers had forgotten to load her wheelchair, it took just seven minutes for an airline representative to tweet back promising to put things right. With research showing that travelers put a premium on being made to feel valued, social networking could help smaller airlines to get a jump on less responsive rivals.
