Dassault eyes $5 billion deal with Brazilian military

Dassault Aviation could be on the brink of its first foreign sale: a $5 billion deal to deliver 36 Rafale combat jets to the Brazilian military. The contract, which might later rise to 120 aircraft, could help offset declining sales at Dassault's commercially crucial Falcon business-jet division. Still, the move includes a technology transfer allowing Brazil to assemble the jets and sell them regionally -- a sign of the pressures on aircraft manufacturers in today's global marketplace.
