For excess water, a rain garden awaits

Rain gardens are popping up throughout the Fort Wayne, Ind., area as a result of a workshop offered last year on how to produce such gardens. Janice and John Long attended the workshop after their landscaper suggested a rain garden as a way to deal with excess runoff that was rotting their home. The couple says that because of their inefficient older home, they see the garden as a way to give back to the environment. The city also offered cash incentives for those who installed the gardens -- up to $175.
