Marriage rights are focus of R.I. protest

Dozens of marriage-equality supporters attended a rally on Saturday in Providence, R.I., to pressure state legislators to enact marriage equality -- currently Rhode Island is the only New England state in which gay couples cannot marry. Kathy J. Kushnir, executive director of Marriage Equality Rhode Island, said she didn't think marriage would come to a vote this year, but that the General Assembly might OK a bill that would give same-sex partners the right to make funeral arrangements and claim the bodies of deceased partners.
