Oregon court ruling raises concerns for contractors

A recent decision by an Oregon appeals court allows property owners to file negligence lawsuits against contractors for building-code violations. The court ruling makes it more difficult for contractors to establish that they have a "special relationship" with property owners. Observers say the ruling will increase litigation and insurance costs for contractors who relied on contracts to control their liability. The case may go to the state Supreme Court for consideration.
