Report says schools need healthier menus

A report issued by the Institute of Medicine is urging schools to update their dietary guidelines and adopt healthier menus for their students. Switching to skim or 1% milk from 2% or whole, limiting calories and sodium content, and providing more vegetables in school meals are among the report's recommendations. An author of the report pointed out that the higher price of the updated meals will be a long-term investment in children's health.
