Anil Gupta, the Michael Dingman Chair in Global Strategy and Entrepreneurship at the University of Maryland's Robert H. Smith School of Business, has been studying and observing Wal-Mart for several years. In a book he co-wrote, Gupta explores Wal-Mart's journey toward globalisation. "They were not the smartest globaliser and also not the dumbest globaliser," Gupta said.
