New York smokers object as city ponders outdoor ban

New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg has proposed an aggressive expansion of a 2003 smoking ban originally enacted to cover restaurants, angering many among the city's puffing population in the process. The expanded ban would cover outdoor public spaces including beaches, parks and pedestrian plazas. It's the latest move from the health-minded mayor, who succeeded in banning trans fats in the city's restaurants and spearheaded a national salt-reduction effort.
