Veterinarian highlights role of owners in fight against pet obesity

The number of obese dogs in the U.S., estimated to be about 45% to 60%, is on the rise, especially as their owners also put on weight. This trend could put pets at increased risk for more serious health problems such as heart disease and diabetes, says Dr. Debbye Turner Bell, a resident veterinarian with "The Early Show." Bell advises owners to take measures to help their animals lead healthy lifestyles by cutting back on food and increasing physical activity.
