The Environmental Protection Agency plans to set new standards for the disposal of wastewater from natural gas drilling sites, including shale formations. "We can protect the health of American families and communities at the same time we ensure access to all of the important resources that make up our energy economy. The American people expect and deserve nothing less," said EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson in a statement. Republican lawmakers and some industry groups criticized the plan, saying states already regulate wastewater disposal.
