It's D-Day for tablet makers in newly competitive market

Apple and Nokia will offer details of their new tablets on the same day, Tuesday, in a global market where Samsung Electronics has closed the gap with Apple's iPad, by more than doubling its share to 18%, IDC says. While Apple introduces its new iPad and iPad Mini, Nokia CEO Stephen Elop will trot out its first tablet and hybrid smartphone-tablet devices. Also Tuesday, Microsoft will release its new Surface tablet after announcing plans to buy Nokia's products division. Amazon began its latest Kindle Fire, the $229 redesigned HDX, late last week.
