Study: Immunization lowers risk of severe flu-related illness in pediatric patients

Full vaccination for the flu was tied to a 74% lower risk of intensive care unit admission for flu-related illnesses among pediatric patients during the 2010-2011 and 2011-2012 flu seasons, a case-control study showed. However, researchers noted a low vaccine coverage, even in children diagnosed with other conditions that put them at greater risk for severe flu-related complications. The findings were presented at the IDWeek meeting.
