British teachers win right to restrain students

British teachers soon will have the "clear and unambiguous" legal right to punish and restrain unruly pupils, now that Education Secretary Ruth Kelly has concurred with recommendations from a government task force on school discipline. Kelly also vowed to adopt other key proposals from the panel, such as requiring that parents monitor suspended students.
