Report: Biomedical industry important to Calif. economy

The biomedical industry contributed $18 billion in wages and nearly 260,000 jobs to the California economy last year, according to a trade group report. The state's 2,700 biomedical firms and 100 research laboratories constitute the second-largest category of high-tech employers in the state, after computer-related businesses.
